Green Pond Baptist Church was established July 9, 1804 in the Green Pond Community of Woodruff, SC. The current church building was built in the mid 1950’s, while the current parsonage was added in the 1960’s.
The Green Pond Church family has been an active group in the Green Pond and Woodruff community over the past two centuries.
We look forward to how God will use our fellowship in our local community, the greater Greenville-Spartanburg area, our state, nation, and around the world as we seek to be obedient to our Lord’s command to, “Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you.” (Matthew28:19-20 ESV)
Green Pond Baptist Church exists as a local fellowship of believers in Jesus Christ. Our individual and corporate purpose is to glorify God, which is our purpose for being created (Isaiah 43:5-7). We are part of the eternal family of God in a covenant relationship with God and each
Our desire, in accordance with Ephesians 4:12-16, is to equip our members to prayerfully speak the Word of God to a lost world, so that God will redeem them and reconcile them to himself. In addition we are seeking to speak God’s Word to fellow believers as we disciple one another. We are grateful God has chosen to call us as ambassadors in his great redemptive plan for the nations! Our prayer is that we will be faithful and obedient to this call, as God draws his redeemed into relationship with him for all of eternity.
If you share this desire to be obedient to God’s redemptive plan and would like to join with a family with this common purpose, please come visit us. We look forward to meeting you and getting to know you!
Green Pond Baptist Church is affiliated with the Spartanburg County Baptist Network, The SC Baptist Convention, and the Southern Baptist Convention.
Green Pond Baptist Church is affiliated with the Southern Baptist Convention (SBC), the South Carolina Baptist Convention, and the Spartanburg County Baptist Network. Hence, we endorse and are in total agreement with The Baptist Faith and Message (2000). A link to this document is provided here: sbc.net/bfm2000/bfm2000.asp
Because one of the hallmarks of the SBC is the autonomy of the local church (as was the case with churches in the New Testament), Southern Baptist congregations may vary in church polity, governance, style and order in a worship service, etc.; yet, we hold fast to the belief of the inerrancy and infallibility of Scripture and that Scripture is the sole authority for the believer in this world.
Therefore, while we at GPBC may have some small areas of practice that differ from other churches in the SBC, our belief in the doctrines of Scripture, God, Man, Sin, Salvation, the Church, Marriage and Family, Grace, the Ordinances, etc. is in full agreement with The Baptist Faith
and Message (2000).

Minister of Music
Keith is a native of Woodruff, SC. He met his sweetheart in Junior High School and knew that Sherry was the one for him. On June 12, 2018, they will celebrate 37 years of marriage. They have one son, Jonathan, who is married to Ashley. Jonathan and Ashley are parents to Keith and Sherry’s two beautiful grandchildren Isaiah, who is seven years old and Laura, who is four years old.
Keith became a Christian when he was 12 years old at Westend Baptist Church, in Woodruff, SC. His Sunday School teacher, Lorraine White, provided much support and inspiration to Keith, as a young believer, encouraging him to wait on the Lord. She repeatedly reminded Keith that “God will guide you to what He would have you do.”
As best he could, Keith attempted to follow that instruction and be obedient to God’s calling on his life. For the past 30 years, using the gifts with which God has equipped him, Keith has led several congregations, in the Woodruff area, in the ministry of music. The majority of that ministry has been in using his gifts to direct and lead choirs in offering worship to God.
Specifically, Keith served Westend Baptist Church for over 20 years, Northside Baptist Church for seven years, and has led the music ministry of Green Pond Baptist Church since 2017. Keith recognizes that people have different musical preferences, but knows that the message of Christ…the Gospel… remains the same, regardless of the “style” of music in which it is presented.
